For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been trying to find a notary public to authenticate my education and professional qualification certificates. Having all your qualifications verified, as well as CRB checks etc, are all necessary to obtain a work permit for Malawi. I must admit that I had no idea what a notary public is 2 weeks ago!
Being a volunteer, I was asking the notaries to help me on a pro bono basis (i.e. for free!). After several Facebook and Twitter appeals to find a such person and having contacted and been ignored or turned down by almost all of my local notaries, I was honestly beginning to give up and conclude that there are no kind notaries out there!
Well, I’m glad to say that I would have been wrong. On Tuesday, I got a call from an unrecognised number. It was Miss Samantha Turner from Shropshire Notary returning my call from the week before. Despite her busy schedule, she has agreed to help me on a pro bono basis as requested. For which, I am sincerely grateful. There are kind notaries out there!
All this legal stuff reminded me of another TV drama I used to watch called The Practice. An awesome (and very American/OTT) clip here. Ally McBeal / Barry White and dancing babies this is not! On a lighter note and tangent, it also made me think of Breaking Bad’s Saul Goodman, which made me chuckle. I then laughed even more (in a schadenfreude kinda way after googling [Saul Goodman]), thinking about the unfortunate real life lawyers out there called Saul Goodman, or indeed, any other fictitious shady characters in their namesake’s profession! It’s times like these when I’m glad I have a slightly odd combination of a German Christian name and Chinese surname! Minimal schadenfreude intended.
Back to my main point. Thank you Miss Turner!
